IN Engineering + Surveying Celebrates New Generation of Survey Excellence
Brockville ON: A local firm recently marked a new generation of surveying excellence with the certification of Ontario Land Surveyor, John Monahan.
Monahan, Assistant Manager of Surveying for IN Engineering + Surveying (INEAS), had been articling with the firm since last year and recently achieved his official designation as an Ontario Land Surveyor (OLS). For the firm, Monahan is the latest in a long line of surveyors to take on the OLS certification—a line that stretches back generations to 1881.
IN Engineering + Surveying opened its doors last year, during the pandemic. But growth continued and INEAS acquired Collett Surveying, a Brockville firm that had been a surveying institution in the region for decades. Brent Collett, now Director of Survey for INEAS, was the latest owner of the firm that can trace its roots back to Willis Chipman, original owner of the firm, who was instrumental in the formation of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors (AOLS).
As a bonus, Ken Wiseman also attended the virtual OLS ceremony at the INEAS offices. Wiseman was the OLS that Collett himself articled to and was commissioned by in 1988. This connection between the generations is something Collett is very proud of.
“To be able to mentor and encourage John in his professional development is a privilege,” says Collett. “It’s amazing how the years go by, and I am looking forward to witnessing John’s growth and future accomplishments as an Ontario Land Surveyor.”
Andrew Melchers, owner and president of IN Engineering + Surveying, says the firm thrives on the blend of history and innovation.
“We are a full-service firm, offering surveying, engineering, architecture and planning,” explains Melchers. “Having the history and legacy of surveying excellence from Collett Surveying now part of the firm is an important piece of our success. John Monahan is the next stage of that excellence, and we’re very proud of his designation.”
Monahan, a native of New Brunswick, is thrilled and honoured to have been sworn in as a professional member of the AOLS.
“This is an important milestone in my career, and I feel very fortunate to be able to practice this historic and vital profession.”
Monahan also credits the team at INEAS for supporting his learning and providing needed resources.
“The entire team played a huge part in my completion of the articling process and professional exams,” he says. “I am lucky to be a part of this exuberant company so dedicated to the growth of its employees.”
