1863 Market Street Building To Be Demolished in Favour of Potential Development
The historic 1863 building will be demolished after the matter was voted on by City of Brockville Councillors. The Council has decided to continue with the demolition in favour of a potential mid-rise development. It was decided that the 1863 Committee would not have a chance to fundraise to potentially save the building. The building will be completely demolishied until such time a developer takes over the property there may be a parkette or bathrooms on the site.
Our team volunteered to try to save this building and it is unfortunate that it will be demolished. We developed some concept designs but were never given the opportunity to bring the building through detailed design and stakeholder reviews.
Our historic structures provide value to our community and our joint heritage, once the building is demolished it will never be recovered.
